CAMBRIDGE, MA - The Utica University women's indoor track and field team competed at the Harvard Invitational at the Gordon Indoor Track, hosted by Harvard University on Saturday.
One of the top Pioneer performances of the meet came from long-distance legend Marlo Townsend (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy), who broke her own school record in the 3000m with a time of 10:15.83. She finished seventh among a field of Division I athletes, doing extremely well during the high-profile race.
The Pioneers' day begun with a top-ten finish in the weight throw by Riley King (Oswego, NY/Oswego), who managed a 10th place toss of 14.61m. Hailey Hrouda (Wappingers Falls, NY/Roy C. Ketcham) continued her dominance in the event as well, putting together a 12th place 14.43m toss.
In the high jump, Hannah Allison (Herkimer, NY/Herkimer) finished in 12th place after clearing 1.50m.
In the 400m, Arianna McClendon (Rome, NY/New York Mills) managed a season's best time of 1:00.52, good enough for 14th place in the event.
In the 60m hurdles, Laura Suppa (Canastota, NY/Canastota) continued her dominance with a time of 8.91, finishing in 13th overall out of a total of 73 entries. Suppa just missed the qualifying time for the finals with her effort.
In the 60m, Shiann Williams (Bronx, NY/Hydel) finished with a 7.94 in the event, a mark good enough for 29th overall, and fifth on the all-time leaderboard in the event.
In the championship shot put, Allie Cary (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) put together a ninth-place finish against several Division I competitors with a 12.24m toss.
In the 800m, Lacey Simmons (Vernon Center, NY/Vernon-Verona-Sherrill) finished with a time of 2:31.13.
In the 200m, Laura Suppa (Canastota, NY/Canastota) and Shiann Williams (Bronx, NY/Hydel) finished 11th and 12th, respectively. Suppa managed a 25.84, a mark good enough for fifth on the all-time leaderboard, while Williams ran a 25.87, which was just shy of a personal best.
In the mile, Catherine Manna (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) managed a 5:24.63, a time good enough for fourth on the program leaderboard in the event.
Utica returns to action on Friday, February 6 as the team returns home to host the Utica Blue & Orange Invitational. Start time from the Todd and Jen Hutton Sports and Recreation Center is set for 5pm.
