BROCKPORT, NY - The Utica University women's track and field team has completed day one of the 2025 Empire 8 Outdoor Track and Field Championships, at host site SUNY Brockport, on Friday afternoon. The Pioneers currently sit in sixth place with 11.5 points.
In the heptathlon, Stefania Grimaldi (Poland, NY/Poland Central) currently sits in second place with 2189 points heading into day two after competing in the 100mh, high jump, shot put, and 200m. Grimaldi will finish the event tomorrow with the long jump, javelin throw, and the 800m.
Mackenzie Mix (Camden, NY/Camden) has qualified for tomorrow's final in the 100m after finishing in seventh place in the first round with a time of 12.65.
In the 100mh, Amelia Petersen (Fonda, NY/Fonda-Fultonville) took 13th place with a time of 17.81.
In the 4x800m relay, the team of Jade Dening (Remsen, NY/Remsen), Caroline Young, Madalyn Haaf (Pompey, NY/Fabius-Pompey), and Catherine Manna (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) took seventh place with a time of 11:01.92.
In the 10,000m, Marlo Townsend (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) ran her way to a third place finish with a time of 39:31.75.
In the long jump, Nyasia Marsh (Westmoreland, NY/Westmoreland) was the top Pioneer finisher with a 5.17m leap to take home 13th place.
In the hammer throw, Riley King (Oswego, NY/Oswego) took home fifth place with a 46.98m throw.
In the pole vault, Cassondra Wood (Canasota, NY/Canasota) took home eighth place after clearing 3.05m.
In the javelin throw, MarLie Macek (Kensington, NH/Exeter High School) was the top Pioneer finish, falling just outside the top ten with a 29.08m throw.
Utica will finish the meet tomorrow, Saturday, May 3. Start time is set for 10am from Brockport, NY.
