ROCHESTER, NY - Long after the hockey season has come and gone, the mountain of achievements the Utica Women's Hockey program just continues to grow.
Â
On Tuesday afternoon, the UCHC released its list of 87 All-Academic team selections, of which the Pioneers secured 27 honorees, an incredible amount and five more than the next closest program. These players showed their class on and off the ice, bringing in recognition for more than just their athleticism, as they continued to build on their legacy with this prestigious honor.
Â
Of the 27 Pioneers that were honored, three of these players picked up the accolade for an impressive FIFTH time, receiving All-Academic honors for every single year of their storied careers. Here are those three athletes:
Â
#32 Angela Hawthorne (Santa Clara, CA/Meijer) | Goalkeeper
Â
Hawthorne wraps up her illustrious career with an All-Academic honor, taking home just another in a long, long list of accolades that the California native has captured in her five years with the program. Hawthorne picked up her third UCHC Goalkeeper of the Year award this past season, and also broke numerous records including the program's all-time career saves tally, which now sits at an unfathomable 1994. To top it all off, the Pioneer veteran received an AHCA Third Team All-American nod, a rousing end to a righteous career.
Â
#5 Hailey Modlin (Phoenix, AZ/Boston Shamrocks) | Forward
Â
One of the Pioneers' assistant captains, Modlin had a great year where the team achieved new heights thanks in large part to her leadership and calm display of dominance on the ice. Modlin, a Second Team All-UCHC recipient the season before last, picked up eight goals and nine assists this past season to help the team to an awesome 19-8 record. She will leave a legacy behind as one of the team's most valued and respected leaders, on and off the ice, and the next generation of Pioneer skaters will look to follow her example.
Â
#22 Ally Nolan (Westford, MA/Chatham University (NCAA DIII)) | Forward
Â
Nolan made the move to Utica this season after suiting up for UCHC rival Chatham during the first four seasons of her career. The incoming forward provided an immediate jolt to the Pioneer lineup, recording seven goals and 12 assists on her way to becoming one of the team's primary offensive threats. The graduate student grabbed lots of recognition during the year, and received the UCHC All-Academic honor to run her total to five, an incredible amount.
Â
These three players were joined by 24 other Pioneer standouts who also took care of business in the classroom. Here are the rest of the All-Academic honorees:
