ROCHESTER, NY – As the summer continues to roll on in Central New York, the Utica men's hockey team continues to pick up accolades for their achievements this past season.
Yesterday afternoon, the UCHC released its list of 134 Men's Ice Hockey All-Academic Team selections, of which the Pioneers secured 21 honorees. These players showed their class on and off the ice, bringing in recognition for more than just their athleticism, as they continued to build on their legacy with this prestigious honor. They also contributed to the team's outstanding cumulative spring GPA of 3.81, one of the highest marks across all sports in both the Empire 8 and UCHC.
Of the 21 Pioneers that were honored, three of these players picked up the accolade for an impressive fourth time, receiving All-Academic honors for the majority of their careers while also balancing the tough schedule of a student athlete. Here are those three athletes:
#1 Bryan Landsberger (Montreal, Quebec/Nepean Raiders (CCHL)) | Goalkeeper
Landsberger wrapped up his senior season in March, finishing his four years as one of the most renowned and cherished goalkeepers in the history of the program. The orange and blue mainstay managed to capture All-Academic honors in each of his four seasons, parlaying this academic success with great outings on the ice as well, as he finished with the second-best career save percentage (.930) and second-best career goals against average (1.61) in program history. Landsberger had a legendary year during his sophomore season, shattering the single-season program record for wins with 25 in his 29 starts (also a program record). That year, the goalkeeping guru also logged an outrageous .951 save percentage. The Pioneers' stalwart senior will wrap up his career in extraordinary company, racking up an obscene amount of wins and success during his tenure.
#2 Brian Scoville (Agawam, MA/Alabama-Huntsville (NCAA DI)) | Forward
The Pioneer Captain captured his fourth UCHC All-Academic honor for his academic excellence this past year. Last year's Empire 8 Man of the Year, Scoville kept up his stellar performance in both the classroom, and on the ice, as he captained the team to their first ever National Championship appearance back in March. The former All-American will depart Utica after one of the most storied careers in the 25-year history of the program. Scoville has since signed for the Peoria Riverman of the SPHL and will start his pro career in-earnest this upcoming season. The stellar defensemen is represented well in the Pioneers' career record books, after a career which saw him notch 90 total points from the back. His 72 career assists place him fifth all-time, and these marks are thanks to his knack for causing chaos in front of net, with his 355 career shots ranking first all-time in program history. Scoville will also finish with the most career blocks (105) and tied for the most career games played (119), bringing his storied ironman run to a close.
#12 Matt Wood (Garnet Valley, PA/Richmond Generals (USPHL)) | Forward
Wood walks away with another accolade this year, as the 2025 male recipient of the prestigious Kiwanis Award also collected his fourth UCHC All-Academic nod. The Pioneer forward posted excellent marks in the classroom, and outside of it as well, ending the season as the team's third-best point getter and second-leading assist man. Wood put together yet another solid year, proving to be one of the Pioneers' most well-rounded players once again. He finished his senior season with 84 career points, also joining the 30-goal club with his final score of the season. Wood's veteran leadership and clutch play will be missed, as the senior always came through in the nick of time, with eight career game-winning goals (third in program history). His accuracy was also top-notch, with a .152 shot percentage (ninth in program history). Wood completes the trio of highly-touted graduates who received their fourth all-academic honor this year.
These three players were joined by 18 other Pioneer standouts who also took care of business in the classroom. Here is the full list of the Pioneers' All-Academic honorees:
