Women's Soccer Readies for Final Full Week of Non-Conference Play

UTICA, NY - The Utica University women's soccer team is set for two matches this week. The team returns home to take on the SUNY Potsdam Bears on Tuesday, September 9. Game time from Laura M. Casamento Field is set for 6pm. On Friday, September 12, the team will travel to SUNY Morrisville to take on the Mustangs at 4pm.

Last Time Out: The Utica University women's soccer team fell to the Oswego State Lakers on the second day of the Blue Devil Clarion Classic, hosted by Fredonia, by a score of 1-0 on Saturday afternoon.  Leading the Pioneers was Krista Panko (Ilion, NY/Central Valley Academy), Rylee Lamphere (Little Falls, NY/Dolgeville), and Madison Wagner (Saukville, WI/Divine Savior Holy Angels), who each recorded a shot, while Panko's was the only Pioneer attempt to land on goal. In goal for the Pioneers, Emily Duro (Wappinger Falls, NY/Roy C. Ketcham) allowed one goal while making five saves in the effort.
 
Athlete of the Week: Samantha Ferguson (Westmoreland, NY/Westmoreland) has been named Pioneer Athlete of the Week. Ferguson netted not only her first collegiate goal, but her first career hat trick last week in a 7-0 win over SUNY Canton. Against Canton, Ferguson also recorded a perfect shot on goal percentage after making five attempts in only 38 minutes on the field. On the week, Ferguson recorded seven shots with six on goal for a .857 shot on goal percentage through three games, with an average of 2.33 shots per game. 
 
Getting it Done: Goalkeeper Emily Duro (Wappinger Falls, NY/Roy C. Ketcham) posted a .833 save percentage in two games played last week. Duro only allowed one goal, while having to make five saves posting a 0.67 goals against average. Against Canton, Duro was the finishing goaltender in a combined shutout effort, while not having to make a save. Keeper Hannah Pcola (Cassville, NY/Mount Markham) has gotten in on the action as well, with Pcola posting 45 shutout minutes as the starter in the combined shutout over Canton. 
 
Point Producers: Nine different Pioneers have made the scoresheet through three games this season. Amber Piersma (Cassville, NY/Mount Markham) has continued her dominance with a team high 10 points, followed by Ferguson, whose hat trick was good enough for six points. Madison Wagner (Saukville, WI/Divine Savior Holy Angels) has gotten in on the action, recording her first career goal, as well as tallying two assists for four points. Kayla Giovingo (Centereach, NY/Centereach) is the last Pioneer that has found the back of the net so far this season   with two points. Samantha Kogut (North Adams, MA/Drury) and Krista Panko (Ilion, NY/Central Valley Academy) have been in the mix offensively, each recording a pair of assists. Adrianna Calabria (Cicero, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse), Meg Lasher (Schenectady, NY/Schalmont), and Lily Martin (Poland, NY/Poland) round out the Pioneer point production, each with an assist. 
 
Scouting Potsdam: The SUNY Potsdam Bears have posted a 2-0-1 record this season. There have only been two Bears that have managed to find the back of the net this season in Alana Cunningham and Emily Jordan who each have a goal to their names. Adrianna Orlando has consistently made her presence known on offense, with a team high 13 shot attempts, eight of which have fallen on goal. Megan Fry has done all of the work for the Bears between the pipes, not allowing a goal this season, with 11 total saves. Last time out against the Bears, the Pioneers took the matchup by a score of 2-0. All time against Potsdam, Utica is 9-11-1 with a 4-7 record at home. 
 
A Look at Morrisville: The Morrisville Mustangs are 1-1-1 on the season so far. Haylie Buysse currently holds the team lead in the goal column with three. Five other Mustangs have found the back of the net in Callie Lafontaine, Ava Malin, Sarah Davis, Elliott Patenaude and Ashlyn Seguin. A total of nine Mustangs have registered at least one shot on goal this season, with 10 Mustangs having at least one shot attempt. Cheyanne Thomas has done all the work for the Mustangs in goal, allowing eight goals against with nine saves, posting a 2.67 goals against average. All time against the Mustangs, the Pioneers are 5-0, with last season's matchup being a 7-0 win in favor of the Pioneers. 
 
Up Next: The team returns home to take on nearby Hamilton College in the team's final non-conference matchup of the season. Game time from Laura M. Casamento Field is set for 4pm on Wednesday, September 17.
