ITHACA, NY - Utica University's women's wrestling team competed in a tri-meet Sunday afternoon inside Ben Light Gymnasium, facing Onondaga Community College and host Ithaca College. The Pioneers opened the day with a 20-5 victory over Onondaga before closing the afternoon with a 25-10 setback against the Bombers.
Utica opened the tri-meet against the Lazers, facing competition in just one weight class. OCC's Deanna Williamson contested
Dakoda House (Oneonta, NY/Cherry Valley Springfield) in the 131-pound class, winning via fall 1:00 in. Onondaga did not present a wrestler for any of the remaining weight classes, allowing Utica to pull in four wins via forfeit to win the dual 20-5.
In the second dual of the day, Utica faced Ithaca College and fell by a score of 25-10. The Pioneers' points in the dual came via forfeits at 138 pounds with Jacqueline Mace and at 207 with
Natalie Enriquez (Mastic Beach, NY/William Floyd), accounting for the team's 10 total points. All contested bouts went in Ithaca's favor, including falls against
Octavia Dragotta (Utica, NY/Thomas R. Proctor) at 124 (1:00),
Dakoda House (Oneonta, NY/Cherry Valley Springfield) at 131 (1:32), and
Evelyn Enriquez (Mastic Beach, NY/Miller Place) at 180 (0:09), as the Bombers built separation through the middle and upper weights. Several exhibition matches followed the team score, with additional falls recorded by Ithaca, but they did not factor into the final result.
The squad will now take over a week off before returning to action in a quad meet hosted by Elmira College. That event will take place in Elmira's Speidel Gymnasium on Wednesday, January 28th.
