SCRANTON, PA - Utica University's men's wrestling team competed Saturday afternoon in a tri-meet hosted by Lackawanna College, also featuring Jamestown Community College. The Pioneers split the day, falling to the hosts 40-18 before rebounding with a dominant 51-3 victory over Jamestown CC. The Pioneers will look ahead to a home dual meet next weekend to round out their regular season.
In the opening dual against Lackawanna, Utica picked up three wins in contested bouts.
Logan Banks (West Hartford, CT/Conard) delivered the Pioneers' quickest result of the day at 141 pounds, securing a fall over John Almonte just 47 seconds into the match. At 133,
Marco Milankovic (Deer Park, NY/Deer Park) earned six points via forfeit, and
Nuallan King (Pen Argyl, PA/Pen Argyl Area High School) added Utica's final win with a fall over Adan Salazar at the 2:34 mark in the 197-pound bout. The remaining contested matches went in Lackawanna's favor, with falls paving the way for the hosts to pull away for the 40-18 decision.
Utica responded emphatically in the second dual, rolling past Jamestown Community College by a 51-3 score. The Pioneers opened with four straight forfeits before
Seth Richardson (Fort Plain, NY/Fort Plain) delivered a fall at 184 pounds, pinning Brad Smith late in the bout at 6:49.
Lukas Charles (Nyack, NY/Nyack) closed the dual with a decision at heavyweight, earning an 11-8 win over Jamison Caldwell to cap the scoring. Jamestown's lone points came at 157 pounds, where Shayne Irvin edged
Matt Bonato (Syracuse, NY/Liverpool) by a 13-11 decision.
The Pioneers will return to action in their final regular-season event next Friday, February 13th, when the Elmira College Soaring Eagles come to Utica for a dual meet. Action is scheduled to begin at 5:00 pm on the Miga Court.
