Box Score OSWEGO, NY - The Utica baseball team traveled over to Oswego, NY, to face the Oswego State Lakers in a scheduled doubleheader matchup. Due to inclement weather, the two sides only played a single nine-inning contest, with Oswego winning by a score of 18-10. After leading early and throughout most of the game, the Pioneers gave up a late rally, conceding 15 unanswered runs to drop the matchup.
Brendan Berry (Cranford, NJ/Cranford) led the way offensively for the Pioneers, as the sophomore went 3-4 at the plate and drove in three runs. Both
Matthew Paolucci (Toronto, Ontario/Silverthorn Collegiate Institute) and
Bryant Pereira (Woodbridge, NJ/Woodbridge) notched two hits and two RBIs. Utica tagged the Oswego starter Mason Sands for nine earned runs, knocking him out of the game in the fourth inning, but the Laker bullpen completely shut down the offense for the blue and orange.
Starting the game on the mound for Utica was
Ty Montrose (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro), who threw a respectable 2.2 innings while allowing just two hits and three runs. Montrose was on a pitch limit as the two-way junior has not thrown much off the mound this year.
Justin Notargiacomo (Massapequa, NY/Massapequa),
Luke Barrett (Mansfield, NJ/Warren Hills Regional),
Nathan Pcola (Cassville, NY/Mount Markham High School), and
Charlie Vasquez (New Hyde Park, NY/New Hyde Park Memorial High School) finished the rest of the game on the mound for the Pioneers. Vasquez made his collegiate debut in the contest and recorded his first career strikeout.
