Box Score ONEONTA, NY - The Utica University women's tennis team battled Hartwick on Friday afternoon at Wilber Park Tennis Courts in an Empire 8 conference clash, with the Pioneers ultimately falling to the Hawks, 7-0.
The Pioneers opened the afternoon with three doubles matches. At No. 1 doubles, Lyndsey Tiedemann (Salt Point, NY/Franklin D. Roosevelt) and Averi Kraeger (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) battled Samantha Lantzy and Tehani Courte, Hannah Loebbaka (Saugerties, NY/Saugerties) and Andrea May (McGraw, NY/McGraw) competed at No. 2 doubles, while Hannah Slater (Schenectady, NY/Colonie Central) and Saige Burton (Chittenango, NY/Chittenango) took the court at No. 3 doubles.
Hartwick would secure the doubles point thanks to a trio of wins. Following that, the Pioneers continued to compete in singles play, highlighted by Kraeger and Alexis Brennan (Vernon, NY/Vernon-Verona-Sherrill). Kraeger put together a strong effort at No. 2 singles, taking three games in each set against Courte before falling 6-3, 6-3. At No. 6 singles, Brennan pushed McManus throughout the opening set, taking five games before dropping a 7-5 decision. Brennan continued to battle in the second set before falling 6-4.
Loebbaka also competed at No. 3 singles, while May and Burton represented the Pioneers at No. 4 and No. 5 singles, respectively. Tiedemann competed at No. 1 singles against Lantzy as Utica continued to battle throughout the lineup.
With Friday's match now in the books, the Pioneers will look forward to tomorrow, where they'll welcome Geneseo to the Utica Tennis Courts for a 1:00 PM matchup.
