Utica, NY (4-23-12) – Junior Ben Winkler, of the Utica College men’s lacrosse team, was named the College’s Male Athlete of the Week Monday.  Winkler remains the leader in Empire 8 scoring as he recorded 10 points, on nine goals, last week leading UC to a 1-1 record in E8 action.

After scoring two goals Wednesday, in a 13-6 loss to nationally-ranked Ithaca, he followed up with a seven goal performance on Saturday as the Pioneers beat Elmira 20-16.  Saturday’s victory set a school record for most wins in a single season (eight).

Winkler has 11 multi-goal games including six of those contests with five or more scores.  His 52 total goals rank him first in the competitive Empire 8 Conference.

The Pioneers are currently 8-6 overall while fourth in the conference with a 3-3 mark.  UC heads to Clinton, NY Wednesday for the 2nd annual Contineer Cup hosted by local rival Hamilton College.  Face-off is set for 4 p.m.
