Utica, N.Y (11/1/10) – Freshman forward Trever Hertz of the Utica College men’s hockey team has been named the College’s Male Athlete of the Week for the week ending Oct. 31, 2010. Hertz netted a team-high seven points as the Pioneer’s outscored visiting Franklin Pierce 18-1 over the course of two games at the Utica Memorial Auditorium Friday and Saturday.
Hertz, a first line forward for UC, tallied a career-high five points (two goals, three assists) in the Pioneers’ 8-0 win on Friday night in front of 3,520 fans during the third annual ‘Pink the Rink’ event. He went on to add two more goals (one power-play/one short handed) in a 10-1 win on Saturday night. He was also a team-best +6 in the two Utica victories.
UC improved to 3-0 for the first time in the program’s ten year history and the Pioneers have outscored their opponents 21-2. They hit the road this weekend when they open up ECAC Men’s West Conference play at Hobart College. The puck is scheduled to drop Friday night at 7 p.m. The following night UC will travel to nationally-ranked No. 12 Elmira College for its second straight conference game. Saturday’s game against the Soaring Eagles begins at 7 p.m.
