Utica, NY (11/12/12)- Sophomore Louise Steele-Norton of the Utica College field hockey team was named the College’s Female Athlete of the Week, Monday.
A native of Avondale, PA, Steele-Norton had three goals and seven points in two games last week. On Wednesday, she had two goals, including the game-winner and picked up an assist as Utica downed Endicott College in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. On Saturday, she netted her league-leading 27th goal of the season in the Pioneers’ 3-2 overtime loss to DePauw in the sweet sixteen.
On the season, Steele-Norton had 27 goals and two assists. She led the Empire 8 Conference in goals and points (56) on her way to being named the Conference Player of the Year. Her 27 goals was a new single season record in the E8 and she tied the conference record for game-winning goals (seven) held by Utica College’s Katie Kutas ’08. Steele-Norton also set a new school record with 56 points in a season, surpassing the old record of 41, set by Danielle Fiore ’04.
The Pioneers finished the 2012 campaign advancing to the sweet sixteen of the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history.
