Utica, NY (1-28-13) – Senior sprinter Sylvester Owusu-Afriyie, of the Utica College men's track and field team, was named the College's Male Athlete of the Week for his performance on the track Saturday at the Empire 8 Championships.

Owusu-Afriyie, named Track Athlete of the Meet, broke an Empire 8 record to lead the Utica College men's track and field teams to a third place finish at the 2013 Empire 8 Conference Championships Saturday at the Glazer Arena.

He clocked a final time of 7.08 in the 60 meter dash and also finished third in the 200 meter dash registering a time of 23.54.

Ithaca (142 points) won its eighth straight title while Stevens (106) placed second ahead Utica (81) who finished third.

The Pioneers have four scheduled meets remaining before post-season competition begins.  UC returns to action Saturday, Feb. 2 as the squad heads to the College at Brockport for a 10 a.m. competition.
