Utica, NY (4-7-14) – Senior Meghan Matan, of the Utica College softball team, was named the College’s Female Athlete of the Week Monday after her stellar performance at the plate this past week.
Matan batted .769 this past week leading UC to a perfect 4-0 against Union College and SUNYIT. Over the four games, she went 10-for-13 with nine runs scored, seven RBI, six doubles and two homeruns. On Thursday against SUNYIT, she put together a perfect 6-for-6 outing with six runs, six RBI, four doubles and two homeruns to cap her impressive week at the dish.
On the season, she leads the Pioneers in almost every offensive category including average (.500), at bats (40), total bases (32), hits (20), runs (12), doubles (eight) and slugging percentage (.900).
The Pioneers return to action Tuesday as they welcome cross-town rival Hamilton College to Greenman Field for an afternoon doubleheader. First pitch of game one is set for 3:30 p.m. Utica is 9-4 overall on the season including a 4-0 mark on their home field.
