Utica, N.Y. – Freshman Alec Choleva of the Utica College baseball team was named the College's Male Athlete of the Week for the week ending April 3rd.

For the week, Choleva led the team with a .421 batting average after posting eight hits. He also totaled a team-high six stolen bases and three RBIs.

Choleva proved to be clutch for the Pioneers as they earned their first win of the season when they split a two-game series with SUNY Fredonia on Saturday. Choleva ripped a two-out, two RBI single in the 7th inning to solidify the Pioneers come-for-behind, 8-7, victory.

The Pioneers also had a two-game set against Medaille College on Sunday. Choleva went 5-for-6 over the course of those games, with three runs scored. He also added 5.2 innings of work on the mound and totaled a team-high five strike-outs.

The Pioneers return to action on Wednesday, April 6th when they take on SUNYIT in a double-header. The first game is set to start at 2 p.m. at Larry DeLutis Field.
