UTICA, NY – The Utica College women's ice hockey team defeated visiting Hamilton College 5-2 Friday night.
The Lady Pioneers started out the first period with two goals from junior Deana Wiegand (Belle Tire, MI/Utica, MI) who tallied three points off of two goals and one assist for the Pioneers.
Utica went ahead 4-0 on goals from junior classmates Lindsay Pemble (Connecticut Polar Bears/ Pittsfield, MA) and Stephanie Price (Little Caesars (MI)/River Rouge) , but Hamilton would not back down scoring two goals just twenty-three seconds apart in the third period. Utica responded quickly as Courtney Bank (Belle Tire/Saginaw,MI) found the back of the net with one minute and fifty-five seconds remaining to close out the scoring for the Pioneers.
Zoe Baldwin (Deerfield Academy/Nepean, Ontario) and Kerry Leonard (University of Southern Maine/Stamford, CO) scored both the goals for Hamilton. Baldwin leads Hamilton with a team-high 11 points this season (seven goals, four assists).
Junior forward Mandy Finkle (Little Caesars/Milford, MI) tallied three assists on the evening, giving her a team-high seven assist on the year. Price added two assists for Utica. She now leads the Pioneers with eight points on the season.
Ashley Kaufman (Northern Light, CT/Enfield, CT), Kelli Vosler (National Sports Academy/Saranac Lake), and Samantha Rowan (Belle Tire MI,Trenton, MI) each recorded an assist for Utica.
The Pioneers (3-3-0, 1-2-0 ECAC West) return to action December 30th at 7 p.m. at the St. Michael's Tournament, while Hamilton returns to the January 4, 2006 against visiting Lake Forest College.
