UTICA, NY – The nationally-ranked No. 9 Utica College women's hockey team defeated visiting Cortland St. 11-0 Tuesday afternoon and extended its shut out streak to three consecutive games.
The Pioneers have outscored their opponents 30-0 in the past three games and have only allowed three goals the entire season.
The Pioneers shot out to a 5-0 first period lead behind a
Stephanie Price (River Rouge, MI/) hat-trick. All-American
Jill Nolan (Labrador, Newfoundland/) opened the scoring for the Pioneers and Price kept pace tallying two of her own.
Deanna Wiegand (Utica, MI/) got in on the action to make the game 4-0 on an assist from Price and
Krystal Cummings (Victor, NY/). Price netter her fifth goal of the season with just fifty three seconds remaining in the first period, assisted by Wiegand.
The Pioneers scored two second period goals. Price netted the first to give UC a 6-0 lead on an assist from
Samantha Rowan (Trenton, MI/). Freshman forward
Andrea Maxon (Canton, NY/Hugh C. Williams) scored her second goal of the season with nine second left on the second period clock.
UC netted four more in the third period.
Kristina Reeves (Pascoag, RI/Kents Hill) scored her first collegiate goal, Wiegand tallied two more to complete the hat-trick, and Maxon netter her second of the night on an assist from
Kelli Vossler (Saranac Lake, NY/).
Price led the Pioneers with eight points on four goals and two assists, while Wiegand and Nolan combined for 10 points on four goals and six assists.
Sarah Pernak (Livonia, MI/) and Rowan each recorded one point, while Cummings, Maxon, and Vossler combined for six points on two goals and four assists.
Alex Talbott (Rochester, NY/) won her second game of the season tallying 10 saves in sixty minutes of work.
UC (4-0-0, 3-0-0 ECAC West) returns to action at nationally-ranked No. 1 Plattsburgh on December 2, 2006.
