UTICA, NY – Marcus Maroney (Lockport/Utica) of the Utica College football team was named to the D3Football.com 2006 All-Region Team this week. Maroney, the Pioneer's free safety, was named to the All-East Region Third Team Defense.

    Maroney, a junior, was named Empire 8 Player of the Week in October for an outstanding performance against Mount Ida. In the game, Maroney recorded 16 tackles, seven of which were solo, with one sack and a deflected pass.

    Maroney was also named to the Empire 8 All-Conference First Team in November. He was eleventh in the nation after posting 90 tackles in 10 games this season. Maroney ranks third on Utica's single season tackle list behind Anthony Venturino who posted 92.5 tackles in 2003 and 98 tackles in 2004. Maroney is also second to Venturino in the college's all-time career tackle list with 172.

    The Pioneer's closed out the season with a 3-7 record with wins over Becker, Mt Ida, and Norwich.
