PLATTSBURGH, NY - After shooting out to a 3-0 first period lead the Utica College women's ice hockey team tied nationally-ranked No. 1 Plattsburgh St. 3-3 Saturday at Plattsburgh.
Courtney Bank (Saginaw, MI/) gave the Pioneers a 1-0 lead with her second goal of the season 8:01 into the first period.
Jill Nolan (Labrador, Newfoundland/) tallied the assist on the opening goal.
Stephanie Price (River Rouge, MI/) notched her seventh goal of the season to put the Pioneers up 2-0 14:41 into the first period.
Samantha Rowan (Trenton, MI/) and
Jessica Leclerc (Augusta, ME/) each recorded an assist on the goal.
Nolan scored the Pioneers third and final goal just under two minutes later. Nolan's seventh goal of the season gave UC a 3-0 lead.
Deanna Wiegand (Utica, MI/) and
Katie Moss (Rochester, NY/) assisted on the Pioneers' third goal.
Plattsburgh posted one goal in the first and two in the second period to tie the game up. A scoreless third period and overtime gave the Pioneers their second tie against national powerhouse Plattsburgh in program-history.
Shay Bywater got Plattsburgh on the board with her second goal of the season 17:51 into the first period. Amber Ellis assisted on the Cardinals' first goal.
Gina Kozar scored on a power play to cut UC's lead to 3-2 in the second period. Jessica Moreua tallied the game-tying goal just over three minutes later to close the scoring. Danielle Blanchard posted assists on the final two goals.
Stephanie Yates (Garden Grove, CA/) made 30 saves in net for the Pioneers, while Breanne Doyle made 21 stops for Plattsburgh.
UC (4-0-1) has never beaten Plattsburgh (6-0-1) and will square off against the Cardinals again Sunday at 3:00 p.m.
