UTICA, NY – The Utica College women's ice hockey team lost 7-3 Sunday afternoon to host Plattsburgh State.
The Pioneers gave up an early goal just seven minutes into the game, but senior Amanda Finkle netted a goal not even two minutes later to tie it up. Finkle's score was assisted by
Jill Nolan (Labrador, Newfoundland/). Two minutes later Plattsburgh came back with a goal by Lindsay Brown assisted by Laurie Bowler who had the first goal for the Cardinals.
Senior
Deanna Wiegand (Utica, MI/) scored the lone goal late in the second period off a power play for the Pioneers. Wiegand was assisted by
Katie Moss (Rochester, NY/) and
Ashley Kaufman (Enfield, CT/). The Cardinals outscored the Pioneers 4-1 in the second period; three of the goals were scored off of power plays. Scoring for Plattsburgh was Danielle Blanchard, Lindsay Brown, Jessica Moreau and Julie Devereux.
Finkle managed to net one more goal for the Pioneers in the third period, Finkle's goal was assisted by Wiegand. UC goalies,
Stephanie Yates (Garden Grove, CA/) and
Alex Talbott (Rochester, NY/) combined for 17 saves on the night.
The Pioneers return to action Wednesday, December, 7th at 7:00 p.m. UC will host cross-town rival Hamilton College at the Utica Memorial Auditorium. Free tickets for the contest will be available at www.ucpioneers.com.
