UTICA, NY – The nationally- ranked No. 8 Utica College women's hockey team went 0-1-1 this weekend at host Elmira College in ECAC West Conference action. The Pioneers skated to a 2-2 tie with the Soaring Eagles on Saturday, but fell 2-0 on Sunday.
UC took a 2-0 first period lead on Saturday behind goals from senior forward
Deanna Wiegand (Utica, MI/) and freshman forward
Andrea Maxon (Canton, NY/Hugh C. Williams).
Krystal Cummings (Victor, NY/), Amanda Finkle, and
Courtney Bank (Saginaw, MI/) each recorded an assist on the first two goals.
UC surrendered two second period goals and could not find the back of the net in overtime as they earned their second tie of the season. Senior goalie
Stephanie Yates (Garden Grove, CA/) made 23 stops in net for the Pioneers.
Wiegand leads the team with 29 points and ranks second in the nation averaging 2.23 points per game. With the goal on Saturday Wiegand has tallied 150 career points in four seasons as a Pioneers. She holds the school record for points in a career.
The Pioneers were blanked on Sunday by Elmira goalie Allison Cubberley, who stopped 22 shots in 60:00 of work. UC out shot Elmira 32-20 on the night but could not fend off Elmira's high powered offensive attack. Yates made 18 stops in the loss.
UC (9-2-2, 3-2-2 ECAC West) will host Cortland St. Wednesday in ECAC West Conference action.
