ASTON, PA – The Utica College women's ice hockey team defeated host Neumann College 4-2 Monday afternoon in ECAC West action. The win was the third in a row for the Pioneers and completed the two game sweep of Neumann College.
The Pioneers jumped out to an early lead when
Andrea Maxon (Canton, NY/Hugh C. Williams) scored her 10th goal of the season and second goal in two games to give the Pioneers a 1-0 lead.
Stephanie Price (River Rouge, MI/) and
Ashley Kaufman (Enfield, CT/) had the assist on Maxon's goal.
Later in the period, Neumann tied the score with a power play goal from Jenelle Marier (Sudbury Wolves/Sudbury, ONT) with just over a minute to play in the period. The Pioneers answered quickly however when
Deanna Wiegand (Utica, MI/) scored her 19th goal of the season with three seconds remaining in the first period.
Krystal Cummings (Victor, NY/) and
Courtney Bank (Saginaw, MI/) had the assist.
The Pioneers added to their lead 2:43 into the second period when
Stephanie Price (River Rouge, MI/) netted her team-high 20th goal of the season. Maxon and
Kelli Vossler (Saranac Lake, NY/) had the assist on Price's goal.
In the third period, the Pioneers took a commanding 4-1 lead when Maxon scored her second goal of the afternoon with just under 12 minutes left to play. Price had the assist on Maxon's power play goal.
Neumann would score with just over nine minutes to play in the game to bring the score to 4-2, but that proved to be the final goal of the game.
Stephanie Yates (Garden Grove, CA/) had 23 saves on the afternoon for the Pioneers while Teresa White (Eugene Midget Boys/Salem, OR) had 28 saves for Neumann.
With the win, the Pioneers improve their record to 16-4-3 overall and 8-2-2 in the ECAC West division. The Pioneers return to action this weekend when they host Oswego State for a two game weekend set on Saturday and Sunday. Both games are at 4:00 p.m. at the Utica Memorial Auditorium.
