UTICA, N.Y. – Senior offensive lineman Larre Harris (Mohawk/Mohawk) of the Utica College football team was recently recognized by the National Strength and Condition Association (NSCA) as an All-American Strength and Conditioning Athlete of the Year. The award recognizes 238 collegiate athletes from 165 schools across the country for their dedication to strength training and conditioning.
Harris was chosen by strength coach Jerome Tine, CSCS, who said, “Larre has worked extremely hard in the weight room preparing himself to be the best. His strength and explosiveness has really contributed to his success as well as the team success. Larre has demonstrated leadership on the field and in the weight room. His dedication, commitment and work ethic have been an inspiration to our program.”
Harris, who will graduate from UC in May with a degree in sociology, started the past four seasons for the Pioneers on the offensive line and was named team tri-captain last season. Harris earned Empire 8 All-Conference honorable mention status after blocking for an offensive attack that totaled 2,306 yards of total offense and 15 touchdowns in 10 games last season.
The Pioneers, who finished last season with a 3-7 overall record, will head to Quebec, Canada to take on the Quebec Monarks in a cultural exchange exhibition on May 27, 2007 at Laval University Stadium.
