Utica, NY- Senior free safety Marcus Maroney (Lockport/Utica) and junior punter
Ben Atwood (Vernon-Verona-Sherrill/Verona) of the Utica College football team were named to the 2007 ECAC Division III Northwest Football All-Star team on Tuesday.
This marks the second time Maroney has been named to the all-star team. The free safety was also named to the Empire 8 conference first-team for the second time in November. In 10 games this past season Maroney compiled 72 tackles, a fumble recovery as well as one blocked kick. His four-year career stats include 262 career tackles ranking him second all-time on the college's career tackle list. 15.5 of those tackles were for a loss and he also tallied five passes deflected, three fumble recoveries, two sacks, two interceptions, two blocked kicks, one forced fumble, and one touchdown in his many games.
Ben Atwood is being named to the ECAC Northwest All-Star Team for the first time. In 10 games this past season Atwood had 58 punts for 2,320, good for an average of 40 yards per punt. His longest punt of the season was a 67 yard punt in the Pioneers' loss to Alfred. He also had seven touchbacks and three punts that were downed inside of the 20-yard line. Atwood holds every Utica College punting record, including yards (6,018), attempts (155), yards per attempt (38.83) and longest punt (67).
The Utica College Pioneers finished the 2007 season with a 3-7 overall record and went 1-5 in the Empire 8 Conference.
