WOMEN'S HOCKEY FALLS TO #3 ELMIRA

The Utica College women's hockey team lost to nationally-ranked No. 3 Elmira College 4-1 in ECAC Women's West Conference play Sunday afternoon at the Utica Memorial Auditorium. Jodie Galluzzi netted the lone goal of the contest for the Pioneers. Junior goalie Laurel Simer stopped 36 shots in her first collegiate start.

The Soaring Eagles completed the two-game weekend sweep of the Pioneers and improved to 3-0 overall on the year, while UC dropped to 2-4 overall. 

Elmira jumped out to a 2-0 lead behind second period goals from Anastasia Steele-Norton and Jamie Kivi. 

Galluzzi helped the Pioneers cut the lead to 2-1 when she netted her first goal of the season on a power-play early in the third period.  Senior captain Andrea Maxon and freshman forward Meghan McMahon each tallied an assist on Galluzzi's goal. 

The Soaring Eagles sealed the victory with two more third period goals. 

EC out shout UC 40-19 on the day and each team went 1-for-4 on the power play. 

Samantha Maquire stopped 18 shots in 60 minutes of work between the pipes for Elmira. 

UC returns to conference play next Saturday when they host Chatham University in a weekend set at the Aud.  Saturday's contest is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
