WOMEN'S HOCKEY COMPLETES WEEKEND SWEEP OF ADRIAN

The Utica College women's hockey team evened its record at 2-2 on the year after a 4-2 victory over visiting Adrian College Saturday at the Utica Memorial Auditorium.  After a scoreless first period the Pioneers netted two goals in each of the final two periods to earn the key non conference victory.  Senior goalie Jill Doherty was phenomenal in net for the second straight night, stopping 48 shots in her second victory of the season.

Junior captain Lynny Gonzales opened the scoring on the evening when she netted her second goal of the season 2:01 into the period to give UC a 1-0 lead.  The Pioneers doubled their lead when Gonzales hooked up with classmate Samantha Glockling on a short-handed, break away goal, to give UC a commanding 2-0 lead in the 10th minute of the second period.

Adrian came out sharp in the third period and cut the UC lead in half when Stacey Kempson drilled home a power-play goal at the 1:08 mark.

The Pioneers quickly put out the Bulldogs fire by netting the eventual game-winner, from the stick of freshman Meghan McMahon, on a break away to give UC a two goal lead.  Junior Darcy Hier added an insurance goal for Utica at the 7:50 mark of the third period to seal the victory for the Pioneers.

Utica returns to action next Saturday when they host nationally-ranked No. 2 Elmira College in the ECAC Women's West Conference opener for the Pioneers.  The puck is scheduled to drop at 7 p.m.
