WOMEN'S HOCKEY COMPLETES WEEKEND SWEEP OF CORTLAND

Three different players scored goals as the Utica women's ice hockey team defeated Cortland, 3-0, Sunday afternoon in ECAC West action at Alumni Arena. The Red Dragons fell to 3-7 overall and 2-4 in the conference with the setback, while the Pioneers improved to 6-4-1 and 4-2-1.

Freshman goalie Sarah Sitcov (Arlington, VA/Wyoming Seminary) registered a career-high 36 saves for Cortland.

Juniors Lynny Gonzales (Rochester/New Hampton Prep), Meagan Sudik (West Bend, WI/Wisconsin Wild) and Samantha Glockling (Carleton Place, ON/Tilton School) each scored for Utica. Junior Tiffany Bichrest (Harpswell, ME/Hebron Academy) collected two assists and three other players chipped in with one assist.

Senior goalie Jill Doherty (Wellesley, MA/Kents) turned aside 24 shots, including 14 in the third period, to earn the shutout.
After a scoreless first period, Gonzales scored what proved to be the game winner just 15 seconds into the second period. lifting a puck over Sitcov from the left side. Sudik made it a 2-0 game at 16:20 of the second on a rebound goal after she forced a turnover in neutral ice and led a rush into Utica's offensive zone.

Early in the third period, the Pioneers killed off a 1:47 two-player power play by the Red Dragons. Later in the period, moments after denying another Cortland power play, Glocking notched a power-play score with a slap shot from the right point only 13 seconds into the player advantage. Doherty was able to preserve the shutout with several outstanding saves in the final 20 minutes.
