The Utica College women's ice hockey team lost 4-2 on the road to local rival Hamilton College Tuesday night after failing to score on all six of their power play opportunities. Hamilton College converted on three of their seven power play opportunities on its way to a two goal victory. The UC women are now 7-5-2 all time against the Continentals. Junior Lynny Gonzales (New Hampton Prep/Rochester, NY) and sophomore Meagan Sudik (Wisconsin Wild/West End, WI) scored goals for the Pioneers and goalie
Laurel Simer (Shattuck-St.Marys/Faribault, MN) had 32 saves despite falling to 0-2 on the season.
The Pioneers fall to 9-8-2 on the season and currently sit in fourth place in the ECAC Women's West standings. Hamilton improves to 6-7-3 overall good for sixth place in the NESCAC.
Hamilton College started off the scoring 13:46 into the first period on a power play goal by Amy Allen off assists from Stephanie Miguel and Christie Sharlow.
The Pioneers answered back in the second period when junior forward Lynny Gonzales put in a goal off assists from Darcy Hier (Colorado Selects/Aurora, CO) and Becky Heim (New Jersey Rockets/Westwood, NJ). Hamilton College would retake the lead 15:41 into the second period when Stephanie Miguel scored off an assist from Rachel Rapoza. Power plays would continue to hurt the Pioneers as Meredith Bitterman put in the Continentals third goal of the contest at 17:32 off assists from Julia Beaty and Abby Runyon. UC would answer back with a goal two minutes later in the period as Megan Sudik scored her fifth goal of the season off assists from Tiffany Bichrest (Hebron Academy/Harpswell, ME) and Nicole Joslyn (Rochester Edge (NY)/Whitesboro).
The Continentals would add an insurance goal 15:16 into the third quarter when Christie Sharlow scored off assists from Stephanie Miguel and Amy Allen, off yet another power play.
Hamilton College looks to add another win on Tuesday at 7 p.m. when they visit SUNY Potsdam. The Pioneers look to bounce back from their loss as they take on ECAC rival RIT Saturday at the Frank Ritter Memorial Ice Arena at 2 p.m.
