The Utica College women's hockey team lost to nationally-ranked No. 2 Plattsburgh State 6-1 in ECAC Women's West Conference play Friday night at the Utica Memorial Auditorium. With the loss the Pioneers snapped a six game unbeaten streak. Senior forward Andrea Maxon netted the lone goal of the evening with just over two minutes to go in the contest for the Pioneers. Junior's Samantha Glockling and Lynny Gonzales assisted on the power-play goal.
The Pioneers are now 7-5-1 overall and 4-3-1 in conference play, while the Cardinals improved to 9-1 overall and 8-0 in the conference.
Plattsburgh earned a 33-18 shot advantage on the evening and scored on 3-of-5 power play opportunities. The Cardinals scored the game's first six goals before Maxon found the back of the next late in the contest to cut the Plattsburgh lead to five.
Steph Moon, Teal Glove, Erica Pomponio, Magan DiJulio, Stephanie Moberg and Mackenzie Lee each netted one goal apiece for Plattsburgh.
Senior goalie Jill Doherty stopped 14 shots in 27 minutes of work, while
Laurel Simer closed out the game for Utica and allowed just one goal in nearly 33 minutes of action between the pipes. Plattsburgh net minder Mandy Macrell won her seventh contest of the season by stopping 17 shots on the day.
