The Utica College women's hockey team lit the lamp twice in each of the first two periods and added an insurance goal in the final stanza to earn a convincing 5-0 victory over visiting Cortland State Tuesday night in an ECAC Women's West Conference contest at the Utica Memorial Auditorium. Senior forward
Meagan Sudik (West Bend, WI/Wisconsin Wild) netted a season-high two goals and added one assist to pace the Pioneers to their third straight conference victory.
The Pioneers (6-2, 5-2 ECAC West), who received one vote in the latest USCHO.com national poll, got 14 saves from
Jennifer Hamel (Ithaca, NY/Northwood School) as the freshman goaltender earned her first collegiate shut out. Senior
Samantha Glockling (Carleton Place, ONT/Tilton School) totaled two assists, while eight other Pioneers tallied one point in the victory.
Utica outshot the Red Dragons 39-14 on the evening and the Pioneers penalty-kill unit fended off seven power play opportunities. The same unit also added two shorthanded goals.

Rebecca Heim (Westwood, NJ/New Jersey Rockets) opened the scoring midway through the first period of play off assists from sophomore
Carmen Johnson (Falls Church, VA/Washington Pride) and freshman
Meredith Tice (Hershey, PA/Washington Pride). Reigning ECAC Women's West Rookie of the Week
Megan Myers (Las Vegas, NV/LA Selects) added her team-high eighth goal of the season just over four minutes later to give the home squad a commanding 2-0 lead.
Lindsay Norton (Eden, NY/Buffalo Bisons) and
Darcy Hier (Centennial, CO/Colorado Selects) assisted on the second goal of the contest.
Sudik then added a shorthanded goal 7:26 into the second period off an assist from Glockling before sophomore
Meghan McMahon (Gardner, MA/St. Marks (MA)) tallied the fourth goal of the game with 12 seconds left in the second.
Sudik wrapped up the scoring 6:02 into the third period when she tallied her second shorthanded goal of the evening of an assist from classmate
Tiffany Bichrest (Harpswell, ME/Hebron Academy).
Cortland goalie Sarah Ribarich stopped 34 shots in goal for the visitors.
The Pioneers return to action Saturday Dec. 4 as they host conference rival Elmira College in a two-game series at “The Aud”. The puck is scheduled to drop at 7 p.m. The Soaring Eagles are currently 5-2-1 overall, including a 3-0-1 mark in conference play.
