PIONEERS WIN FIRST OF TWO AGAINST BENGALS IN WOMEN'S HOCKEY

The Utica College women's ice hockey team opened up conference play Friday night with a 3-1 win over Buffalo State, at Ice Arena, in Buffalo, NY. UC improves to 2-0 overall and 1-0 in the ECAC Women's West Conference while the Bengals fall to 1-2 overall and 0-1 in conference play. Mackenzie Roy (Concord, NH/Cushing Academy) led the Pioneers with one goal and two assists.

Utica fell behind, 1-0, in the first period after Buff State's Nicole Laurel converted a power-play at 13:07. Both teams had nine shots in the first period.

In the second period, the Bengals would be penalized, at 8:06, for interference and UC sophomore Meghan McMahon (Gardner, MA/St. Marks (MA)) would capitalize four seconds later with her fourth goal of the season. Roy and Samantha Glockling (Carleton Place, ONT/Tilton School) would tally the assists.

After two periods of play, the score was tied 1-1. Buffalo State would open up the third period with another penalty, however would defend the man down situation. Only five seconds later, at 2:33, Pioneer captain Samantha Glockling (Carleton Place, ONT/Tilton School) would net the game winning goal.

The No.1 star, MacKenzie Roy (Concord, NH/Cushing Academy), would register an insurance goal for UC, at 15:22, in the third to put the game out of reach.

Junior goalkeeper, Marissa Hotaling (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro), would record 23 saves as she improves to 2-0 on the season.

The Pioneers return to action Saturday for game two of the conference double header at Ice Arena. The game is scheduled to start at 4 p.m.
