Utica, N.Y. (12/5/2010) – The Utica College women's hockey team dropped a 3-0 decision in game two of a weekend set against visiting and nationally-ranked No. 10 Elmira College Sunday afternoon. Freshman goalie
Jennifer Hamel (Ithaca, NY/Northwood School) stopped 28 shots in net to pace the Pioneers (6-4, 5-4 ECAC West).
The Soaring Eagles (7-2-1, 5-0-1 ECAC West), coming off a come from behind, 4-3 overtime, victory over Utica Saturday night, were led by freshman forward Tori Charron's two points to earn their third straight conference victory. Charron closed out the weekend with three goals and one assist including the game-tying and game-winning goals on Saturday night.
After a scoreless first period Elmira got two goals in the second period to take a 2-0 advantage. Charron's power-play goal 5:59 into the second period gave the visitors a 1-0 lead, and Madison Johnston closed out the second period scoring, on the power-play, with her second goal of the season.
Tanis Lamoureux added an insurance goal for Elmira in the third period to seal the victory.
The Soaring Eagles went 2-for-7 on the power-play while the Pioneers went 0-for-5 with a one skater advantage.
UC will hit the road on Wednesday for game one of a five game road trip as the Pioneers travel to Williams College to take on the Ephs at 7 p.m.
