Travis Ladd (Mexico, NY/Mexico Academy),
Rick Rados (Verona, NY/Vernon Verona Sherrill) and
Brendon Ring (Eden, NY/St. Francis), of the Utica College football team, played in the 2010 Division III Senior Classic and aided their team to a 26-18 victory on Friday in the trio's last collegiate game.
The 2nd Annual
Senior Classic was held at Salem Stadium in Salem, Virginia, home of the NCAA Division III Football Championship since 1993.
“This is a great experience for our players and is equally important
for the program,” according to third year head coach
Blaise Faggiano. “It's rewarding for our kids and great exposure for our institution”.
The set of Pioneers represented the North team which was led by the coaching staff of conference rival Springfield College.
Travis Ladd (Mexico, NY/Mexico Academy), a linebacker, became the fourth player in school-history to record over 100 tackles in a single season after posting 108 (43 solo, 65 assisted) this past season. He was an Empire 8 honorable mention after leading the conference and ranking 24th in the nation in tackles per game (10.8). He closed out his career ranked eighth on the College's all-time tackles list with 194 over the course of four seasons.
Offensive linemen
Rick Rados (Verona, NY/Vernon Verona Sherrill) and
Brendon Ring (Eden, NY/St. Francis) were honored for their efforts in protecting for the second best passing offense in the conference. Rados, Ring and the Utica offensive line ranked third in the conference with just 13 sacks allowed. The pair started all ten games on the offensive line this season for the Pioneers. Both helped the Pioneer offense compile 321 points this season to go along with 2,742 passing yards and 1,265 rushing yards.
The Pioneers finished their 2010 campaign with an overall record of 5-5.
