PIONEERS BATTLE BACK BUT FALL SHORT AT #4 PLATTSBURGH

The Utica College women's hockey team lost, 3-2, to host SUNY Plattsburgh Saturday night. The Pioneers are now 12-12 overall including an 8-9 mark in the ECAC Women's West Conference, while Plattsburgh improves to 18-3-3 on the season as well as 14-1-2 in conference play. Freshman Megan Myers (Las Vegas, NV/LA Selects) led UC with both Utica goals.

Plattsburgh opened up the scoring at 4:27 in the first period when Megan DiJulio netted her tenth goal of the season, unassisted. The Cardinals outshot UC 16-7 in the first 20 minutes of play.

DiJulio scored her second goal of the game, at 1:01 in the second period, to give Plattsburgh a 2-0 lead. Monica Korzon and Steph Moon had assists on the play. The Pioneers would answer .32 seconds later when Myers netted her 18th goal of the season, on the power-play, off a dish from Samantha Glockling (Carleton Place, ONT/Tilton School). Just over four minutes later, the home team would net the eventual game-winner when Steph Moon found the back of the net, even strentghed, at 5:35.

In the third period, Myers hooked up with Darcy Hier (Centennial, CO/Colorado Selects) for her team leading 19th goal of the season, at 18:57, to pull within one goal of the lead. However, time would run out for UC as Plattsburgh got the victory, 3-2.

Junior goalie Marissa Hotaling (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) tallied 41 saves for Utica as her record dropped to 6-10 on the season.

The Pioneers return to action Sunday for game two of the weekend set against the Cardinals. The puck is scheduled to drop at 3 p.m.
