The Utica College women's ice hockey team lost, 7-0, to No. 4 SUNY Plattsburgh Sunday afternoon at Ronald B. Stafford Ice Arena in Plattsburgh, N.Y. The Pioneers fall to 12-13 overall while dropping to 8-10 in the ECAC Women's West Conference, while the Cardinals improve to 19-3-3 on the season incuding a 15-1-2 record in conference play.
Plattsburgh took a 1-0 lead, at 7:31 in the first period, when Teal Gove tallied her team leading 15th goal of the season, even-strengthed. Cardinal's Jordan Caldwell and Brittany Meade had assists on the play. Following a Plattsburgh penalty for hooking, at 12:23, UC would go on the power-play, however, could not convert. At 18:48, Utica was penalized for cross-checking, but would fend off the home team till the buzzer. Plattsburgh out-shot the Pioneers 17-2 in the first 20 minutes of play.
The Cardinals opened up the second period with a one-man advantge for the first .48 seconds, but did not convert. However, they did convert on the next power-play when Brittany Meade connected with Kara Buehler and Kylie Klasse, at 2:54, to give Plattsburgh a 2-0 lead. At 7:47, UC was penalized again and with .9 seconds remaining on the power-play Plattsburgh would find the back of the net as Erika Shaubel recorded her fourth goal of the season, at 9:48. The Cardinals would go on to score four more goals (two power -play, two even-strengthed) in the last ten minutes to take 7-0 advantage into the final period. The Pioneers commited six penalties and were out-shot 24-6 in the period.
Again, Plattsburgh would come out of the locker room on the power-play, after UC was penalized for the seventh time to end the second period. The Cadinals would have a one-man advantage for the first 1:47 into the final period but Utica would fend them off. The Pioneers outplayed Plattsburgh for most of the final period, out shooting them 8-1 over the first 15 minutes. UC would get a last power-play chance to break the shut-out at 5:59, however could noty convert and the Cardinals went on to get the 7-0 win.

Megan Myers (Las Vegas, NV/LA Selects) and
Brittany Dellechiaie (Leominster, MA/The Winchendon School) each recorded two shots for Utica.
UC goalies
Laurel Simer (Faribault, MN/Shattuck-St. Marys) and
Marissa Hotaling (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) each had 18 saves. Simer allowed two goals in 39:04 , while Hotaling allowed five goals in 17:27.
The Pioneers return to action Saturday as they travel to Elmira College to face the Soaring Eagles in the opening round of the ECAC Women's West Conference Tournament. The game will be held in Pine Valley, NY at the Murray Athletic Center. The puck is scheduled to drop at 2 p.m.
