The Utica College women's hockey team (10-7, 6-6 ECAC West) prepares for a two-game weekend set against ECAC Women's West Conference foe Neumann University (10-6-3, 7-6-1 ECAC West). The games will held at the Ice Works Arena in Ashton, PA and are scheduled to start at 7 p.m. on Saturday and 3 p.m. on Sunday.
The Pioneers remaining schedule features seven games of which six are pivotal ECAC Women's West Conference match-ups. In the conference standings, UC is currently in sixth place while Neumann is in the fourth spot.
Utica is led by senior forward
Darcy Hier (Centennial, CO/Colorado Selects) who currently leads the nation in assists per game (1.12) and is 12th in points per game (1.35). Hier leads the team in scoring with 23 points, on four goals and 19 assists. Her four goals include two power-play tallies, one short-handed and a game-winner. She is coming off back-to-back multi-point games against Potsdam and looks to continue her hot streak. She has tallied five points in the last three games.
Freshmen standout
Megan Myers (Las Vegas, NV/LA Selects) leads the team and is tied for ninth in the country in goals (13). She is also fifth in points per game among rookies (1.24). On Friday, Myers recorded her second hat-trick of the season, all in the first period, to boost the Pioneers over the Bears, 4-2. Ten of her 13 goals came in crucial conference games, including four over the past two games.
Last season, the team's split in the regular season, with one win a piece, however, Utica beat the Knights, 4-1, in the first round of the conference tournament on Mar. 1 at “The Aud”. Since 2005-06, UC holds an advantage in heads-up play with an 8-4-1 ledger against Neumann. The squads have met in the first round of the playoffs the last three years, with UC winning two of those match-ups.
Following this weekend, the Pioneers are back in action Tuesday, Feb. 8 as they host cross-town rival Hamilton College in a non-conference contest at “The Aud”. The puck is scheduled to drop at 7 p.m. The Continentals are currently 7-9 overall including a 4-6 mark in the NESCAC Conference.
