Utica, NY - The Utica College Baseball team lost both games Sunday against William Paterson University in Wayne, NJ. The Pioneers lost game one 6-3 and game two 12-4 as they drop to 0-7 on the season. Freshman Terrence Reyes went 3-5 on the day, including a triple, one RBI and one run scored.
In game one, UC was down 3-0 headed into the top of the third inning when it put together three straight, two-out, singles to get the on board. Freshman
Mike Rose (Utica, NY/Notre Dame) and senior
Anthony Di Salvo (Washingtonville, NY/Washingtonville) were on first and second when Reyes singled to right field, driving in Rose. The Pioneers scored two more runs in the sixth inning to make the score 4-3, however, William Paterson matched that with two runs of its own in the bottom half of the inning and would go on to win 6-3. Chris Pallas (Rome, NY/Rome Catholic School) threw five innings and allowed three earned runs on four hits and five walks. Pallas tallied three stikeouts.
In the second game, UC came out and scored first off back-to-back triples from Reyes and sophomore
Nick Dunbar (Granville, NY/Granville). After allowing six runs in the bottom of the first, Utica would score two more runs in the top of third to make the score 6-3. The home team would go on to score six more runs in their next three at bats and had a 12-3 lead headed into the sixth inning. Utica would score one more run in the sixth before losing their seventh straight. Freshman
Alec Choleva (Coventry, CT/East Catholic) threw three innings giving up eight earned runs on six hits and six walks for UC.
Sophomore
Chris Podlucky (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island) added three hits and an RBI for Utica.
The Pioneers return to action Wednesday as they travel to Oswego, NY to challenge SUNY Oswego. The double header is scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
