Utica, NY – The Utica College baseball team (1-14, 0-0 Empire 8) looks to snap a five game losing streak as it opens up Empire 8 Conference play this weekend against St. John Fisher College (13-5, 3-1 Empire 8). Saturday and Sunday's doubleheaders are both scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.

Last season, Fisher swept the Pioneers in the four game series in Utica, NY outscoring UC by an average of 5.75 runs per game. Since 2006, St. John Fisher holds an 18-2 ledger and has sweep UC the last three years. Utica last beat the Cardinals on Apr. 28, 2007, 5-2, in Utica, NY. Four of the Pioneer losses came by one run deficits.

UC is led by freshman standout Alec Choleva (Coventry, CT/East Catholic) who is currently batting .389 with 14 hits, five RBI's, and a team-high eight stolen bases. Senior captain Anthony Di Salvo (Washingtonville, NY/Washingtonville) is posting a .321 average at the plate including a team-best 17 hits. Di Salvo has registered 53 at bats while striking out once.

Following this weekend, the Pioneers return to action Wednesday for the annual Jackie Robinson Game between Utica and Hamilton. The game will be held at Royce Field in Clinton, NY and is scheduled at 4 p.m. Since 1987, UC holds a 13-10 advantage against the Continentals.
