Pioneers Shoot 337 as Host of 2011 UC Fall Invitational

Oneida, NY (9-4-11) – The Utica College men's golf team finished seventh, shooting a 337, as the host of the 2011 Utica College Fall Invitational Sunday at Kanon Valley Country Club in Oneida, NY. Sophomore Mike Reilly (Colton, NY /Colton Pierrepont) shot a team-best 82 as the Pioneers took the course for the first time in 2011-2012. Reilly shot a 42 on the front while finishing with a 40 on the back.

Local product, junior John Gaspa (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro), placed second for UC as he shot an 83. Gaspa struck a 38 on the front and finished with a 45 on the back.

Freshman Christian Leogrande (New Hartford, NY/Notre Dame) tied with junior Ethan Kreisel (Amsterdam, NY/Amsterdam) for third, both shooting an 86. Leogrande shot 43 on both sides while Keisel shot 45 on the front and 41 on the back.

Sophomore Pat Dundon, also a member of the UC men's lacrosse team, rejoined the Pioneers for the Fall season. Dundon shot a 91 placing fourth for Utica in his first outing since the 2010 Fall campaign.

New Edition, freshman Nick Regan, shot a 98 in his first collegiate tournament. The Little Falls native turned in a 51 on the front and a 47 on the back.

Empire 8 rival Scranton University took first place tallying a 302 as a team. Scranton's Chris Hudace struck an impressive 70, as he took home the medalist trophy.

The Pioneers return to the course Saturday, Sept. 17 as they host the 2011 Fall Empire 8 Golf Championships at the Yahnundasis Golf and Country Club in New Hartford, NY. The tournament will be played on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 18.
