Elmira, NY (11/9/12)- The Utica College women's hockey team fell to nationally ranked No. 4 Elmira College 7-0 Friday night.
The home team showed why they are tabbed as one of the top teams in the nation as they jumped out to a three goal lead in the first period.
It appeared that Utica had gotten on the board in the second period, however the score was waved off and the Soaring Eagles immediately capitalized by netting their fourth goal. Elmira continued to control play as it was able to add two more goals in the second period and one in the third to cap off the night.
The Soaring Eagles went two-for-two on powerplay opportunities, while Utica was 0-5.
Marissa Hotaling (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) made eight saves, while sophomore
Marissa McNamara (Camillus, NY/Lysander Lightning) had 16 saves in relief.
The teams return to action Saturday as they meet at the Utica Memorial Auditorium to wrap up the season series. The opening faceoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
