2013 Dream Bowl

Utica, NY (12/19/2012) – Utica College senior football players Tom Dyer (Rochester, NY/Greece Olympia) and Michael Herberger (Amherst, NY/Williamsville North) have both accepted invitations to play in the Inaugural Dream Bowl College Football All-Star Game which will be played on Jan. 21, 2013 at Salem Stadium in Roanoke, VA.  The game is a showcase of the best NCAA Division III and NAIA players from across the country.  The game and the series of events held over Martin Luther King, Jr. Weekend are a celebration of the excellence, commitment, and sacrifice made by the players and their families.

Dyer, an impressive 6-foot-2, 295 pound offensive lineman was the anchor of the Utica offensive line which recorded 1,246 yards rushing, 3,404 yards passing and 46 total touchdowns scored this past season.  In addition, the Utica offense average over 34 points per game and scored on 38 out of 47 trips to the red-zone, including 30 touchdowns.

Dyer, an Empire 8 All-Conference First Team selection this past Fall, led Utica to 243 first downs, 4,650 total yards of offense, and a 50% third down conversion rate.  His play on the offensive line helped UC outscore its opponents 342-285 over the course of ten games.

Herberger, a 6-foot-3, 255 pound defensive end, has been a disruptive force on the defensive line for Utica for the past four years. He finished the 2012 season with 39 total tackles, 14 tackles for loss, 6.5 sacks, one pass defended and a forced fumble. His size on the line has allowed Herberger to be behind the line of scrimmage regularly, as he made big plays for the Utica defense.

Herberger, a two-time All-Conference selection, wrapped up his career at UC with 24 career tackles for a loss.  He finished ranked third all-time with 11.5 career sacks.  His 14 tackles for a loss this past season is tied for sixth all-time.  His 6.5 sacks ranks fourth all-time for a single season.

The Dream Bowl will be played on Martin Luther King, Jr. Weekend to honor Martin Luther King's spirit and to recall his motto “I have a dream". The Dream Bowl weekend will incorporate family activities, historical tours, and civic and community involvement as it makes Roanoke and the Dream Bowl a destination for football fans and families alike. The Dream Bowl will offer first-class accommodations, meals, and facilities along with a full weekend of football and social related activities, which will create a lifetime of memories in their collegiate send-off game.
