Pioneers Downed by Saxons at the UC Pool

Utica, NY (1-11-13) – The Utica College men and women swim and dive teams lost to visiting E8 foe Alfred University Saturday at the Utica College Pool of Champions.  The men lost 131-62 and were led by sophomore diver Tyler Hickey who recorded a team-best, 18 points on the one-meter board.  The women were downed 128-78 and guided by senior Michelle Allen (Canton, MA/Canton) who recorded the only outright win for the squad in the 50 yard freestyle.

Hickey took first in both dive events with scores of 108.50 and 105.90 grabbing nine points for each dive while Allen tallied 13 total points, nine in the 50 yard and four in the 100 yard freestyle, to pace the women's squad.  She registered times of 27.42 and 58.97.

Other notables for the women include sophomore Amy Dumary (Ballston Spa, NY/Ballston Spa) who posted eight individual points and two second place finishes in her respective events.  Dumary swam the 200 yard medley and the 100 yard butterfly recording times of 2:36.13 and 1:07.81. Junior Jordan Hess (Victor, NY/Victor Senior ) gathered nine points in three events for UC with second, third and fourth place finishes.

Sophomore Anthony Farber and Raphael Warnon accompanied Hickey to lead the way for the men.  Farber took second in the 100 yard freestyle with a final time of 53.88 while Warnon finished second in both of his events collecting eight points for the team.  Warnon clocked a final time of 2:10.85 in the 200 yard medley and 58.66 in the 100 yard backstroke.

UC wraps up the season with three-of-four matches at the friendly confines of the UC Pool. Following Friday's meet versus Alfred Utica will hit the road for one competition against Clarkson on Jan. 19th before coming home for two straight matches against Nazareth (1/26/13) and St. Lawrence (2/2/13) to conclude the season.
