Meredith Tice (Hershey, PA/Washington Pride) scored just under three minutes into overtime and classmate
Megan Myers (Las Vegas, NV/LA Selects) added two goals and an assist to lift the Utica College women's hockey team over ECAC West rival, Neumann University, 3-2 Saturday night.
Myers opened the scoring at 15:40 of the first period as she netted her team-best ninth goal of the season. Sophomore
Courtney May (Oxford, MI/Belle Tire) and junior
Brittany DelleChiaie (Leominster, MA/The Winchendon School) assisted on the tally. Just two minutes later, the Knights evened the score as Danica Delry scored her third of the season. Lindsey Spatola and Lauren Cusack.
The lone goal in the second period came at 11:59 as Myers scored her tenth of the game and second of the night on a power play. Classmate
Vanessa Maines (Boxborough, MA/Boston Jr. Shamrocks) added her second assist on the play.
Neumann came out of the second intermission hard, scoring just 1:15 into the third stanza. Megan Russelo recorded her third of the year, unassisted. Both teams traded scoring chances, but neither could score the go-ahead, sending the game to overtime.
Tice's goal, assisted by May and Myers, sealed the victory for Utica. Senior
Marissa Hotaling (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) made 11 saves for her second win of the season, while Neumann's Shannon Donnelly stopped 34 shots in the loss.
The Pioneers improve to 7-6-1 overall and 5-3-1 in the ECAC West Conference. Meanwhile, Neumann drops to 5-11-1 and 3-6 in the conference.
The teams return to action Sunday for the series finale. Game time is 3 p.m.
