Women's Hockey Takes on Chatham for Senior Weekend

Utica, NY (1/24/13)- The Utica College women's hockey team is set to take on ECAC West opponent, Chatham University in its final home weekend of the regular season.  Both games are scheduled for 4 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.

Last Time Out: UC is coming off a sweep over conference rival, Neumann University last weekend… On Saturday Meredith Tice (Hershey, PA/Washington Pride) scored the game-winner with two minutes left in overtime to lift the Pioneers to a 3-2 victory… On Sunday, four different players scored en route to a 4-1 win over the Knights… Junior Megan Myers (Las Vegas, NV/LA Selects) totaled six points (three goals, three assists) on the weekend.

Where We Sit: The Pioneers are 8-6-1 (6-3-1 ECAC West) and unbeaten in their last five games… UC is currently fourth in the conference standings, behind nationally ranked No. 1 Plattsburgh, No. 3 Elmira, and Oswego State….  UC has allowed just four goals in its last five games and has tallied two shutouts over the stretch. 

Game Coverage: Live stats and video for all home games are available at ucpioneers.com… Utica College's WPNR (90.7 FM) radio station will be providing live audio for Friday's contest, while ESPN Radio (99.1 FM) will be broadcasting Saturday's tilt.

Double-Header: Both games are part of a UC hockey double-header featuring the men's and women's hockey teams… On Friday, the men take on Neumann University at 7 p.m. and will face off against Manhattanville College Saturday night at 7 p.m.

Myers Honored: Junior Megan Myers (Las Vegas, NV/LA Selects) was recently named ECAC West Player of the Week after tallying six points on the weekend… She is tied for fourth in the conference with 11 goals and has a team-high 19 points on the year… Myers is fifth in the ECAC West and 14th nationally in points per game (1.27) and also has a league-best four power play goals… She currently has 92 career points (49 goals, 43 assists) and needs just eight points to become the third 100-point scorer in UC history, joining All-Americans Deana Wiegand '07 and Stephanie Price '07

Helping Out: Sophomore Courtney May (Oxford, MI/Belle Tire) has registered all 11 of her points on the season off assists… She ranks third in the conference with .73 assists per game and is in the top five in scoring in the league amongst defensemen. 

Spreading the Wealth: 11 different Pioneers have tallied at least one goal on the season… Behind Myers, both senior Carmen Johnson (Falls Church, VA/Washington Pride) and freshman Morgan Reed (Fort Myers, FL/Cushing Academy) have four goals… Nicole Schwartz (Danville, CA/San Jose Sharks), Brittany DelleChiaie (Leominster, MA/The Winchendon School), Meghan McMahon (Gardner, MA/St. Marks (MA)), Meredith Tice (Hershey, PA/Washington Pride), Louise Steele-Norton (Avondale, PA/Millbrook School), Vanessa Maines (Boxborough, MA/Boston Jr. Shamrocks), Kelsey Dowdall (Smiths Falls, ONT/Nepean), and Kristen Beckman (Arnold, MD/Northwood School) have also found the back of the net.

Class of 2013: On Saturday, the Pioneers will honor their six seniors… Mary Fusco (Enfield, CT/Salve Regina University), Meghan McMahon (Gardner, MA/St. Marks (MA)), Meghan Willett (Worcester, MA/Cushing Academy), Carmen Johnson (Falls Church, VA/Washington Pride), Lindsay Norton (Eden, NY/Buffalo Bisons), and Marissa Hotaling (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) have helped the Pioneers to a 44-44-6 record over the last four seasons… The group has made the ECAC West Tournament two of the last three seasons and is on track to make it back to the conference playoffs this year. 

Scouting Chatham: The Cougars are 1-13 overall and 0-10 in the conference… They are led by juniors Morgan Becer and Casey Morfield… Each player has registered three goals and two assists… The Pioneers are 19-0-1 all-time against Chatham… Last year UC won 4-0 and 1-0… Megan Myers (Las Vegas, NV/LA Selects) had three goals on the weekend for UC, while both Marissa Hotaling (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) and Jennifer Hamel (Ithaca, NY/Northwood School) pitched shutouts. 

Looking Ahead: UC returns to action next weekend as it travels to Plattsburgh to take on the No. 1 ranked Cardinals…. Saturday's contest will begin at 7 p.m. with Sunday's game slated for a 3 p.m. face off. 

Save the Date: On Tuesday, Feb. 12, the Pioneers will host their first ever “Gold Ribbon Game” for childhood cancer awareness as they take on Cortland State… UC will don special edition gold jerseys that are currently being auctioned off online… All proceeds will be donated to a family in the Mohawk Valley that is currently dealing with the disease.
