UC S & D Returns Home Following Holiday Hiatus

Utica, NY (1-7-13) – The Utica College men and women swim and dive teams return to action Friday afternoon, following a month long Holiday break, to host Alfred University.

Competition Particulars: The meet is scheduled to start at 1 p.m. and will be held at the Utica College Pool of Champions located in the Clark Athletic Center … The pool features a 10-lane, 25-yard by 6-lane, 25-meter pool, 1-meter diving board, and balcony seating for 185.

UC Men to Continue Strong: The Pioneer men are currently 3-3 overall this season and 0-1 in Empire 8 competition … UC swept the season series with Cazenovia beating them 101-89 and 146-104 and also defeated Wells College 75-45, convincingly … Utica's three wins are tied for the most in a season over the course of the last seven years ... The men are led by seniors Scott Wanner and Jordan Jackson, sophomores Kaleb Bright and Anthony Farber and freshman standout Raphael Warnon.

Pioneer Women Look to Step it up: The UC women currently hold a 1-6 overall record and look to improve in the second half … After opening up the season with five straight losses, Utica put together its first win of the season on Dec. 1st downing Cazenovia College, 159-123, at home. ... Seniors Michelle Allen (Canton, MA/Canton) and Sarah Parker (Dover, NH/Dover) along with sophomores Amy Dumary (Ballston Spa, NY/Ballston Spa) and Gwyn Joyce (Walden, NY/Valley Central) will lead the way for the swim team while junior divers Jordan Hess (Victor, NY/Victor Senior ) and Angeliqua Jones (Monroe, NY /Washingtonville ) will compete for scores on the one-meter board.

The Saxon Report: The Alfred men currently post a 2-1 overall record with wins over Nazareth and Fredonia and a close loss to RIT, 148-146 … The Saxon women, on the other hand, are 1-3 after opening up the season with three straight losses to Nazareth, RIT and Fredonia and then beating William Smith … Last season, the match between the Pioneers and Saxons was canceled on Jan. 13th, 2012 due to a snow storm … AU swept UC the season before on Jan. 14th, 2011

Remaining Schedule: UC wraps up the season with three-of-four matches at the friendly confines of the UC Pool … Following Friday's meet versus Alfred Utica will hit the road for one competition against Clarkson on Jan. 19th before coming home for two straight matches against Nazareth (1/26/13) and St. Lawrence (2/2/13) to conclude the season.
