Utica, NY (11/13/13) - The Utica College women's hockey team seeks its first win of the season as it welcomes SUNY Cortland Friday afternoon. Puck drop is set for 2:30 p.m. The Pioneers will then head to Cortland on Saturday for the finale of the home-and-home series. Saturday's contest is scheduled for 2 p.m.

HOT START FOR REED: Forward
Morgan Reed (Fort Myers, FL/Cushing Academy) is showing no signs of a sophomore slump early in the year… Reed scored both of Utica's goals in the weekend series against Elmira… Reed scored an even-strength goal Saturday and tallied a power-play goal on Sunday… She ripped 14 shots on net over the weekend, second only to Myers' 16… Reed played in all 27 games last season while totaling 16 points.
MYERS DOING HER THING: Senior All-American
Megan Myers (Las Vegas, NV/LA Selects) didn't score over the weekend, but she did assist both goals UC scored… Myers was a force all weekend as she put 16 shots on net, the most of any Pioneer… With extra attention focused on Myers this season, UC will need some key secondary scoring.
HAMEL HANGING TOUGH: Goaltender
Jennifer Hamel (Ithaca, NY/Northwood School) played well for Utica over the weekend… Hamel stopped 62 of the 69 shots she faced against the defending national champions… Hamel did her best to keep the Pioneers in both games as UC spent too much time in the penalty box… Hamel played outstanding in the third period Sunday, giving her team a chance to pull the upset.
SCOUTING CORTLAND: The Red Dragons enter the weekend at 1-2-1 overall… Cortland has yet to play an ECAC West Conference game… Kelly Farinella and Deanna Meunier have split time in net for Cortland, combining for an impressive .943 save percentage… Niamh O'Connor leads the Red Dragons with three points (1g, 2a)… Sky Timmons leads Cortland in goals with two… Sky Timmons and Gina Tomei have score a goal each through four games.
AGAINST CORTLAND: The Pioneers swept the three-game season series against Cortland last season… Utica College has won its last six games against the Red Dragons… The last loss for UC against Cortland was on December 10, 2010 … Friday's game is the first of four regular season meetings between the Pioneers and Red Dragons this season.
