Pioneers Look to Stretch Win Streak to Three

Utica, NY (11-14-13) - The Utica College women's swim team heads to Cazenovia College Saturday looking to make it three-straight … After opening up the season with four consecutive losses, the Pioneers have streaked back-to-back victories against Caz and Wells to move to 2-4 overall on the season … The contest is scheduled for 1 p.m.

Last Time Out - Pioneers Victorious in the Pool

Three Pioneers including senior Evelyn Kurzac (Mundelein, IL/Mundelein Cons), sophomore Jessica Schumann (Nashua, NH/Nashua South) and freshman Cori Brouwer (Jenison, MI/Jenison) posted two wins apiece to lead the UC women's swim team over Wells College, 130-107, this past Saturday at the Utica College Pool … Kurzac totaled 22 team points as she won the 100 and 200-yard butterfly events with times of 1:16.96 and 2:55.60 … Kurzac also took second in the 200-yard backstroke with a clock of 2:39.45, collecting four points … Schumann was victorious in the 100 and 200-yard breaststroke as she posted times of 1:18.84 and 2:48.85 while Brouwer continued her surge with wins in the 100 and 500-yard freestyles … Freshman Mikey Maxwell (Newport, NY/West Canada) also added 13 points with a win and a second place finish.

UC Women Riding the Waves

The Utica women are in search of its third consecutive win this weekend against the Wildcats … A victory on Saturday would mark the most in a season in over five years … The last time the Pioneers recorded more than two victories in a season was in the 2007-08 campaign when they compiled a 4-7 overall mark.

Pioneers & Wildcats All-Time

UC currently holds a 5-1 ledger against Cazenovia dating back to the 2007-08 season … The Pioneers won the first four meeting against the Wildcats before handing over their first loss last season by a mere six points, 55-49 … Utica rebounded, however, with a convincing, 159-123, victory late in the season for its first and only win of last season's campaign … In four heads-up matches versus Caz, UC has won by an average margin of 69 points.

Back to the Friendly Confines

Following Saturday's match on the road, the Pioneers will return home on Saturday, Nov. 23rd as they welcome Skidmore College to the UC Pool for the final match before the Holiday break … The contest is set for 1 p.m. … Skidmore presently holds an overall record of 1-2 and will face Oneonta and St. Rose before coming to Utica.
