Meredith Tice and the Pioneers hope to take two games from first-year program, Stevenson University
Utica, NY (2/14/13)- The Utica College women's hockey team hits the road this weekend for its final two games of the regular season, against Stevenson University.  Saturday's game will be at 5:30 p.m. while Sunday's contest is set for 12:45 p.m.

Last Time Out: The Pioneers are fresh off a 5-2 win over Cortland on Tuesday… Sophomore Kelsey Dowdall (Smiths Falls, ONT/Nepean) led the way with two goals and one assist, while junior Megan Myers (Las Vegas, NV/LA Selects) netted two goals and senior Meghan McMahon (Gardner, MA/St. Marks (MA)) added three assists.

Playoff Picture: Utica (13-8-2, 9-5-2 ECAC West) has clinched a first round home game in the conference playoffs… UC is currently in third place in the league standings, four points ahead of Oswego... If Oswego sweeps Cortland this weekend, the Lakers will take third place in the conference… If Cortland wins or ties either day, the Pioneers will finish in third place and Oswego will be in fourth… UC will either play Cortland, Neumann, or Potsdam in the playoffs.

Gold Ribbon Success: Tuesday's game against Cortland was the Pioneers' first ever-gold ribbon game for childhood cancer awareness… UC wore collector's edition gold and white jerseys that were auctioned off during the game… Utica teamed up with the Shawn Grady Memorial Fund and was able to raise $2,010 to donate to Alex McLaughlin and his family… Alex is an 8-year-old boy from Barneveld, who was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia in August 2011 and will undergo chemotherapy treatments through 2014.

Reaching Milestones: With two goals on Tuesday, junior Megan Myers (Las Vegas, NV/LA Selects) became just the third player in program history to score 100 career points… Myers ranks third in the league with 27 points (16 goals, 11 assists) and her .76 goals per game is good enough for eighth in the nation… Meanwhile, senior Meghan McMahon (Gardner, MA/St. Marks (MA)) recently tallied her 50th career point… McMahon has collected six assists in the last three games and is tied for second on the team with 14 points.

Dowdall Heating Up: Sophomore Kelsey Dowdall (Smiths Falls, ONT/Nepean) has totaled six points (four goals, two assists) in the last four games… On the season, she has netted seven goals and added four assists.

Scouting Stevenson: The Mustangs are in their inaugural season as a women's hockey program… They have compiled a 6-13-1 and are coming off back-to-back 4-1 losses to Connecticut College last weekend… Stevenson is 2-6 against ECAC West competition this season, with its wins coming by way of a 4-1 victory over Buffalo State on Oct. 27, and a 1-0 defeat of Oswego on Jan. 27.

Looking Ahead: The Pioneers will be hosting a home playoff game next weekend… Date, time and opponent are still to be determined… Check ucpioneers.com for the latest post-season information.
