Hoboken, NJ (4/13/2013) – The Utica College men's lacrosse team lost to host and nationally-ranked No. 7 Stevens Institute of Technology 17-7 in Empire 8 Conference action at DeBaun Field on Saturday afternoon. UC's
Trent Jacobs (Akwesasne/Brewster Academy) led the way for the Pioneers with three goals and he now ranks second on the team with 26 points this season.
The Pioneers (7-4, 2-2 Empire 8) are just one win shy of tying the school-record for wins in a single season (8) headed into another key conference game back at Charles A. Gaetano Stadium against nationally-ranked No. 17 Ithaca College on Wednesday afternoon (4 p.m.).
Senior attack
Justin Edelstein (Hartsdale, NY/Harvey School) chipped in with two goals for the Pioneers, while junior
Joe Schoen (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) and sophomore
Zack Stevenson (Elbridge, NY/Jordan-Elbridge) each added one goal and one assist. Schoen now has a team-best 20 assists, while Stevenson has nine goals in 11 games this year. Senior
Ben Winkler (Rodman, NY/IHC) also added a second quarter goal for UC.

Andrew DiOrio (Greenlawn, NY/CW Post) stopped ten shots in 45 minutes of action before being relieved at the beginning of the fourth quarter by freshman
Trent Jacobs (Akwesasne/Brewster Academy). Jacobs came on and made three saves.
Nicolas Philippi registered a game-high five goals and added one assist, while Harrison Dome added four goals to account for nine of the Ducks 17 tallies.
Stevens (9-2, 3-0), which is the highest nationally-ranked team in the Empire 8, led 8-3 at the half and outscored UC 9-4 in the final 30 minutes to earn the ten goal conference victory.
The Ducks outshot the Pioneers 59-42 on the day and earned a 45-26 advantage in the ground ball category. Stevens also won 18-of-26 face-offs.
Matt Werkmeister (Chaska, MN/Chaska) led the Pioneer defense with four ground balls. Freshman
Korin Sunday (Hogansburg, NY/Salmon River) chipped in with two caused turnovers in his first collegiate start for the Pioneers after returning from an early season injury.
Sean Flanagan (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) also added two caused turnovers for Utica.
