#8 Ithaca Tops Utica in Empire 8 Play

Box Score Ithaca, NY (9/25/2013) – The Utica College women's soccer team dropped a 5-0 decision on the road to nationally-ranked No. 8 Ithaca College in Empire 8 Conference action on Wednesday afternoon at Carp Wood field.

Ithaca improved to 6-1 overall and 2-0 in conference play, while the Pioneers record moved to 2-5-2 overall and 0-2 in the E8.  Seniors Amanda Callanan (Ballston Spa, N.Y./Ballston Spa) and Jackie Rodabaugh (Mill Hall, Pa./Central Mountain), sophomore Kelsey King (Coopersburg, Pa./Southern Lehigh) and freshmen Megan Nash (Gansevoort, N.Y./Saratoga Springs) and Hannah Haskell (Wellsburg, N.Y./Notre Dame) all scored in the Bomber victory.

Utica freshman goalie Jamie Enders (Cazenovia, NY/Cazenovia) stopped seven shots in the loss for UC.  Ithaca out shot the Pioneers 29-4 on the day and earned an 8-0 advantage in corner kicks.

Sophomore Beth Coppolecchia (Katonah, N.Y./Somers) earned her sixth win of the season, stopping both shots she faced in 73:44 minutes. Senior Becca Lewis (West Hartford, Conn./Hall) closed out the contest for Ithaca, holding the Pioneers scoreless in the final 16:16 of play.

Callanan got on the board first for the Bombers, as she scored on a penalty kick just 8:40 into the game for a 1-0 Ithaca lead. In the 31st minute, freshman Holly Niemiec (Wilmington, Mass./Wilmington) pushed a centering pass towards the Pioneer net, finding Nash for the tip in. Nash's goal marked the first of her collegiate career, and gave Ithaca the 2-0 lead at the half.

Rodabaugh opened the second half with her second goal of the season, scoring on a feed from fellow senior Jessie Warren (Medway, Mass./Medway) in the 52nd minute. The Bombers took a 4-0 lead in the 65th minute, as King scored her team-leading sixth goal of the season. Haskell capped the scoring for Ithaca, as her first collegiate goal in the final six minutes of play secured the 5-0 shutout victory for the Bombers.

The Pioneers return to action on Saturday when they host conference foe Stevens Institute of Technology for a conference match at 12 p.m.
